Interim Spaces / Bráðabirgðarými presents the work of international artists currently in residence at SÍM Residency Korpúlfsstaðir. Conceived as a temporary gathering, the exhibition reflects the residency as a space of research, experiment, and transformation, where artistic processes remain deliberately open, unsettled, and in motion.
The title gestures toward conditions of transience and becoming. Within a residency, time is both compressed and expanded: moments of observation give rise to forms that are provisional, fragmentary, or exploratory, yet charged with the intensity of lived experience. These works do not resolve into fixed statements but instead occupy thresholds between image and sound, landscape and archive, material and memory.
The exhibition brings together practices that respond to the Icelandic environment while also extending beyond it, weaving together local encounters with broader trajectories of inquiry. Bureaucratic structures brush against elemental forces; everyday routines merge with geological time; traces of care, restriction, or chance become catalysts for reflection. What is gathered here are not finished conclusions, but resonant fragments that speak to the processes of noticing, misplacing, archiving, and reimagining.
In this sense, Interim Spaces / Bráðabirgðarými functions less as a display of discrete works and more as a constellation a temporary alignment of artistic gestures shaped by the rhythms of place, and by the shared condition of working in residence. The exhibition invites viewers to inhabit this in-between zone, to listen closely to what emerges in passing, and to reflect on how meaning can be formed in spaces that are, by nature, provisional.
