What Remains

‘What Remains’ is an ongoing body of work exploring alternative ways of capturing landscapes and scenery through media not commonly seen in travel diaries.

After witnessing the contrasts, immensity, darkness and emptiness of Iceland, it felt necessary to come up with techniques different from the traditional sketchs or illustrations in order to capture places and the emotions they sollicite in the viewer, and to document the sensations as much as the landscapes that provoke them. Working with monotypes allows me to explore notions of isolation, magnitude and melancholy in an almost abstract way, so that the journal becomes a record not only of the landscapes and scenes encountered, but also of the impressions the traveler carries with them long after leaving.
