A compulsion towards the carnivalesque, a vibrant trashy aesthetic and the desire to playfully rub the fantastical against the everyday drive my practice. I work in painting, sculpture, performance and video employing camp and theatrics to demonstrate the ridiculousness of patriarchal systems. I came to Seljavegur in January 2021 to refresh the symbolic imagery of my paintings. I kidnapped characteristics from the characters on firework packets, pocketed sea shells and avidly watched the ever changing sky to create a new environment to house my hybrid creatures. These were brightly transcribed on large scale calico panels, referencing theatre sets, designed to be a site for storytelling.
