Solitary living and working spaces are often the subject matter of my work as I explore the relationship between physical interior spaces and a person’s inner world. I am interested in diary writing and drawing as everyday practices and what similarities and differences occur across these forms.
During my stay at SIM I worked on a series of small scale drawings using photos and sketches from my recent travels and everyday surroundings. Each day I wrote ‘drawing thoughts’ reflecting on things like process, presentation and materiality.
Thinking about the transient ‘things’ that humans attach themselves to and how they become a portrait for a particular time and place led to the work ‘Things on the Floor’; a drawing installation of objects that I had kept close to me throughout my stay at the residency accompanied by a diary writing performance.
